A woman lost her life when the boat she was on board with more than 10 people capsized in the municipality of Las Galeras, in the province of Samaná. The fatal victim and other injured people were part of an excursion that started from the municipality of Guerra.
The deceased was identified as Risaris de la Cruz Castro, 23, who was on the boat with her friends and remained floating for several hours in the open sea.
A fun-seeking excursion turned into a nightmare for more than ten families from the municipality of Guerra after the boat they were traveling in capsized at midday on Sunday.
The castaways were equipped with life jackets, but their relatives complained about the lack of lifeguards in the area and blamed the captain of the boat for the high speed at which he was moving.
Some passengers on the boat were rushed to hospital, but have reportedly been discharged.
Risoris’ remains have been buried in the La Joya municipal cemetery, in the municipality of Guerra.
