Electronic fraud: A woman spends more than half a million pesos with a credit card that isn’t hers

In the municipality of Quisqueya, province of San Pedro de Macorís, the National Police arrested Yasirys Altagracia García Robles, 40, accused of having made unauthorized purchases worth over half a million pesos by improperly using someone else’s credit card. García Robles had made fraudulent purchases of household and technological items in several stores and supermarkets.

Among the items recovered were three pressure cookers, an extractor, three tablets, two televisions, an electric saw, a box of tools, an electric coffee maker, a printer and a blender.

García Robles was traveling in a vehicle at the time of her arrest. The operation was attended by police officers from the High Technology Crime Investigation Department (Dicat) and prevention agents who collaborated in the recovery of fraudulently acquired objects.

The woman is accused of making unauthorized purchases for a significant amount with a credit card that did not belong to her. The authorities acted in compliance with an arrest warrant against her for computer fraud against a citizen.

This case highlights the importance of maintaining security in the use of credit cards and preventing electronic fraud, which can cause serious damage to both individuals and financial institutions.
