The former justice minister Piero Fassino and the attempted theft of a perfume

An episode that says a lot about how we are governed. Fassino put the bottle in his jacket pocket and walked away from the Duty Free area, triggering the anti-shoplifting alarm. All documented by cameras. The videos were checked and a complaint was filed against him. The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office is now investigating.

There is little to investigate however. Dozens of similar cases happen every week. Kleptomania is apparently widespread in this type of shop, where everything is beautiful and the instinct to take possession of objects for sale without paying and the emotions of risk are irresistible.

When you get caught, however, you can be sure that it is not the first time. Fassino can say what he wants. His trips are very frequent. During his life he has visited a myriad of Duty free shops, this one and others, and who knows how many bottles of perfume or other things he absentmindedly pocketed without anyone ever noticing anything. Perhaps also because he is a well-known figure and it is better to turn a blind eye. This time, however, the former justice minister and member of parliament in several legislatures, former mayor of Turin, president of the Middle East committee of the European Commission in Strasbourg was caught red-handed. An embarrassing affair for everyone, especially for the voters who continue to vote for him.
