In the last three years the vehicle fleet has increased on average annually by 322,844 units and shows a growing trend

Of the units imported last year, only 45.16% were completely new, zero kilometer, as emerges from the statistics of the Parque Vehicular 2023 study, by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII).

Of the vehicle fleet, 56.5% are motorcycles, 19.3% correspond to cars, 11.7% are jeeps and the remaining 12.5% ​​correspond to freight vehicles, buses, etc. The majority of registered vehicles belong to the National District, Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros, with a share of 30.2%, 16.0% and 7.9% respectively.

74.4% of the vehicle fleet belongs to natural persons, 25.6% to legal entities.

Classified by origin, excluding motorbikes, the majority of vehicles that make up the Dominican car fleet are Japanese, representing 61.0% of the vehicle fleet, followed by Koreans with a share of 14.0%, those of American origin with 11.7%, European ones with 6.5% and vehicles from other origins, 6.8%.

The vehicle fleet at the end of fiscal year 2023 amounted to 5,810,888 units, an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous year, equal to 346,892 new units.

By category, the vehicle fleet highlights that motorcycles show the greatest growth in absolute terms with 217,314 registrations, with an increase of 7.1% compared to the previous year; Jeeps follow with 57,179 registrations and an increase of 9.2%, followed by cars with 36,661 registrations and a growth of 3.4%.

59.3% of the vehicle fleet is distributed in the National District, Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros and La Vega. The remaining 40.7% is located in the other provinces that make up the national territory. Of the total cars registered by 2023, 39.8% belong to the National District, 23.0% to Santo Domingo, 10.2% to Santiago de los Caballeros and the remaining 27.0% to the other provinces.
