Onamet warns that rain will continue through the weekend

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) warned on Friday that the rains, which keep 26 of the 32 Dominican provinces on alert, will continue throughout the weekend.

The precipitation is caused by a depression, which starting from midday this Friday generates moderate to heavy downpours with thunderstorms and gusty winds especially in La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Gran Santo Domingo , San Cristóbal and San José de Ocoa. Furthermore, in Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Hermanas Mirabal, La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña and San Juan until the early hours of the night, when they will predominate towards the Cordillera Central and the southwest, gradually decreasing their intensity and frequency.

Due to this situation, the Committee for Emergency Operations (COE) maintains María Trinidad Sánchez, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, Monte Plata, Santiago, Samaná, Hato Mayor, La Altagracia , El Seibo and the National District on yellow alert.

While the provinces of Hermanas Mirabal, San Cristóbal, La Romana, Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, Espaillat, Dajabón, Montecristi, Elías Piña, San Pedro de Macorís, San José de Ocoa and Valverde are on green alert.

The COE recommends that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high volumes of water in the provinces under alert.
