The rains flood the houses of Cibao

SANTIAGO.- The rains recorded yesterday afternoon and in the early hours of last night caused the flooding of dozens of homes located in various communities in Cibao Central and in the province of Puerto Plata, on the north coast.

However, the authorities of the rescue institutions and the National Police reported no human casualties, but rather much material damage to buildings and public and private vehicles.

The floods occurred in the municipalities of Villa Riva, province of Duarte; Moca, La Vega, Bajo Yuna and in the urban sectors of Puerto Plata and Santiago.

The Civil Protection based in this city reported that, despite the floods, no families had to be evacuated.

For two days, the dam committee has been draining the lake of the Tavera-Bao-López Angostura dam, from where they extract 50 cubic meters per second, to avoid flooding in communities located downstream of the Yaque del Norte river.

According to the National Meteorological Office (ONAMET), rains will continue over the next 48 hours in much of the Dominican Republic.
