The PD Piero Fassino reported for attempted theft in a Duty free in Fiumicino

He simply put €100 worth of perfume in his pocket, set off the anti-shoplifting alarm and got a complaint.

The politician tried to justify himself. He says he had chosen a perfume as a gift for his wife (but he was headed to Strasbourg), that he had put the bottle in his pocket to answer a phone call and that he had completely forgotten about it. It can happen. In fact, the same Duty Free of Fiumicino makes dozens of complaints every week. Apparently there are many distracted and forgetful people.

Fassino had already complained about the small amount of compensation he received as a parliamentarian. After all, it is said that he is also very stingy, but these are malice linked to his Jewish origins. A cliché that is difficult to dispel. However, honesty is not very widespread among the Dems, clearly at a political level. No one would get their hands dirty for such a short amount. Fassino apparently yes.

His curriculum is all linked to the PCI and its subsequent evolutions. He has been a parliamentarian several times. He was the mayor of Turin. He is currently a member of parliament. On the day of the complaint he was travelling from Fiumicino to Strasbourg, where he takes part in the work of the Italian delegation at the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe (of which Fassino is the head of the Middle East committee since 5 March). It would be interesting to know whether there isn't a not-so-veiled conflict of interest in that role.
